A SUGGESTION CONCERNING MEDLINE SEARCH STRATEGY
One way to increase the degree to which titles and subject headings work together in forming connections is to require the key search terms to appear in both titles and subject headings. This strategy also has the effect of reducing the (A or C) file size.
For example, if a key search term for File A is "magnesium", instead of typing just "magnesium" into the PubMed search window, which, as of Feb 12, 2003, yielded 63,254 records, you might instead consider: magnesium[TI] AND magnesium[MH], which yielded only 9260 records. This example is not intended as a recipe, but rather is meant to stimulate thought about good search strategies for Arrowsmith problems.
